Refuge (Friday Fictioneers)

“Is this the right place?” She asked. “It looks abandoned.”

“That’s the point,” he said.

The pair had been on the run for days, passing through other ghost towns, looking for others.  This had to be the destination.  The longer they were out in the open, the more likely they would be attacked or captured.

She looked up at the weathered door on the top story.  No stairs.  Smart.  Safe.  They could hide here.

“How do we get up there?” She asked.

The door slowly opened.  A man threw down a rope ladder.

“Climb up. We’ve been waiting for you.”
