About

I have always loved to write. I remember taking my first creative writing class in high school and falling in love. I blossomed in that class. I had a very supportive teacher who encouraged me to be a writer. I also loved the sciences. I eventually went to college and studied biology and psychology, earning a bachelor’s degree in each. I also earned a master’s degree in genetics. All along the way, I continued to write poetry and short stories.

After graduating, life hit me full force. I began working full-time in the medical field. I got married. I had two daughters. And as all parents know, children take over your life. I love them dearly, of course. My daughters are my heart, my love for them is epic and unwavering. But to say that they are time-consuming is an understatement.

I have been at a crossroads lately, both personally and professionally. I have questioned my purpose and my path. I have decided to (try to) focus on myself a little. Writing is part of that focus. My dream has always been to be a published author. I know I can’t achieve that overnight. I may not achieve it in my lifetime. My goal is really just to do what I like, to do what makes me happy. So I write. The rest will fall into place.

  1. Hope that it all falls into place for you! This is the number one reason I don’t want to be a parent… I am entirely way too dependent on my “alone” time (partially due to being an only child, I imagine)… I don’t think this is something I will ever “outgrow”… I hope that you are able to focus on yourself as much as possible and continue writing!

    1. Thank you! I am an only child as well. Losing that alone time is a huge adjustment. I am working on it though! Take care and thanks for taking the time to read and comment 🙂

  2. I know all to well what you say ;0) I too have two happy children well (tween and teen) but I am thinking that they may need my help more now than when they were toddlers. But even so I have done the same and decided to carve out some time for me to feed who I am so I may be a better role model for them. Thank you for the follow.
Kudos to you for making it happen!

  3. Hi Amie! Well done in your determination to become a published novelist. I shall follow your progress with interest. Good luck! BTW, if you wanted to sharpen your literary criticism skills, you would be very welcome to practise on the stories I blog. I crave feedback- it’s the best way to improve- but people are so reluctant to give honest criticism!
Anyway, good luck with your own journey!

  4. I was truly inspired by your post here, Amie. I also love your quote, “It’s never too late to start a new journey.” I’m older, 58, and have recently carved out time in my life to write. My family encouraged me to pursue what I love … writing fiction. I raised my two children (daughter and son) and passionately worked as a charity worker (there’s always more to do), but two years ago, I began my blog and writing fiction in earnest. All that said, I understand how you feel and am sending you best wishes as you pursue your dream of becoming a published author. Looking forward to reading your work! =)
